💚Why you will love this recipe

  • Super creamy and tasty - Be warned, this vegan sriracha mayo is seriously addictive and will leave you craving more! It has the perfect balance between savory, sweet, and tangy, with a nice kick coming from the sriracha.
  • Versatile and pairs well with anything - You can use it as a dip, to spread sandwiches and burgers, or even as a sauce for tacos, salads, or sushi bowls.
  • Easy to make - This spicy vegan mayo comes together in under 5 minutes. All you have to do is mix the ingredients, and it is ready to be served.
  • Highly customizable - You can easily adjust the proportion of ingredients used or add in other flavorings to make it your own.

🧄What you will need

Ingredients needed like mayo, maple syrup, lemon juice, sriracha, and garlic.

📃Ingredients notes and substitutions

  • Mayonnaise - I am using my homemade tofu mayo, but you can use store-bought ones like Hellmann's or Follow Your Heart.
  • Sriracha - an Asian chili sauce made from chili peppers, vinegar, and seasonings like garlic and salt.
    • I love using Huy Fong's sriracha, but if you are looking for a healthier option, I recommend Yellowbird.
  • Lemon juice - Freshly squeezed lemon works best, but you could use the bottled ones. You can also substitute it with lime juice.
  • Maple syrup - Any liquid sweetener like agave syrup or coconut nectar will also work.

🔪How to make

All you have to do is combine all ingredients and mix well. Give it a taste, adding more seasonings, if needed. Your spicy vegan mayo is ready to be served!

A bowl of sriracha with a spoon with small ramekins beside.

✔Helpful tips

  • To reduce the spice level, simply reduce the amount of sriracha used. The reverse is also true, so feel free to add more of it if you love spice!
  • Feel free to adjust the proportion of ingredients used to your liking. Add more lemon juice for tanginess, maple syrup for sweetness, or salt for saltiness.
  • If possible, let this vegan sriracha mayonnaise chill in the fridge for 30 minutes or so before serving. This allows time for the flavors to mellow and develop.
  • Store leftover sauce in an airtight container or sealed jar, and it will last in the fridge for up to a week.

🌶Substitution and add-in ideas

  • Sriracha - You can substitute it with gochujang to make a Korean-inspired spicy sauce.
  • Salt - Substitute with 1-2 teaspoons of soy sauce to give this spicy sauce a boost of umami.
  • Chili flakes or chili powder if you love extra spicy food.
  • Freshly cracked pepper
  • Hot sauce or tabasco sauce
  • Spices - cumin, onion powder, paprika, or any other spices you fancy!

🍟How to serve

As mentioned above, this spicy vegan mayo is incredibly versatile and works well with almost anything! Here are some serving ideas:

  • Dip - Use it as a dip for fries, potato slices, sushi, or even vegan egg rolls!
  • Dressing - Thin it out with a splash of water, and you can now use it to top salads, buddha bowls, or sushi bowls.
  • As a spread - This vegan sriracha mayo is excellent for spreading sandwiches and burritos.
  • In burgers - I especially love using it to top my black bean burgers and TVP burgers.
  • On tacos - You can even use it as a sauce to top tacos like this TVP taco meat or Mexican tempeh tacos.

❔Commonly asked questions

Is sriracha mayo vegan?

Most store-bought or restaurant-made sriracha mayonnaise is not vegan, as regular mayo, which contains eggs, is commonly used. However, you can easily veganize it at home by using eggless mayonnaise instead of the regular one.

Is it the same as yum yum sauce?

Although both sauces are mayonnaise-based, yum yum sauce has a sweeter taste and is less spicy when compared to sriracha mayo.

Is sriracha mayo spicy?

This vegan sriracha mayonnaise is moderately spicy. However, you can easily adjust the spice level by changing the amount of sriracha used.
