Velvety and indulgent, this chocolate protein pudding is the perfect healthy dessert or snack! It is packed with 14g of protein per serving, made possible by combining yogurt with chocolate protein powder and Greek yogurt. All you need are 5 ingredients and 5 minutes to make this recipe.
We love recreating desserts to make them higher in protein! Some of our other favorites include vegan protein balls, protein mug brownies, and vegan protein cookies.

Although I love my silken tofu desserts like tofu chocolate mousse and tofu chocolate pudding, this chocolate protein pudding is my go-to whenever I am looking for a quick way to bump up my protein intake! It is incredibly satisfying and will satisfy any sweet tooth while providing you with a decent dose of protein.

✨Substitutions and flavor variations
- Maple syrup – Can be substituted with other liquid sweeteners like honey, agave syrup, or sugar-free syrup. You can reduce the amount used or even omit it if your protein powder is particularly sweet.
- Peanut butter – Vanilla protein powder + 2 tablespoon peanut butter or powdered peanut butter. You could also use a peanut butter flavored protein powder as well!
- Vanilla – use vanilla-flavored protein powder and omit cocoa powder.
- Mocha – You can add ½ to 1 teaspoon of instant coffee granules.
- Other flavors – Simply switch to a different flavor of protein powder and omit cocoa powder. I also love using cookies and cream, strawberry, or white chocolate.
🔪How to make protein pudding
Step 1: Add all ingredients to a bowl. Using a small whisk or spoon, mix until ingredients are well incorporated.
Step 2: Give it a taste, adding more sweetener if needed. Optionally, top with topping of choice before serving.
✅Helpful tips
- Use a protein powder you like - Be sure to use a protein powder you like the flavor of, as it plays a huge role in the overall flavor of your protein pudding.
- Using the right amount of milk - Start with less and add more as needed to reach your desired consistency. If using whey, skip the milk and add it later only if the pudding is too thick.
- Adjust the sweetness to taste – I recommend adjusting the sweetness to your preference. If unsure, leave out the maple syrup first and add to taste afterwards.

🥜Topping suggestions
- Whipped cream or coconut whip
- Fruits, such as fresh or frozen berries and banana slices
- Shredded coconut or toasted coconut flakes
- Shaved chocolate or chocolate chips
- Chopped nuts – such as crushed pecans, walnuts, or almonds
❄️Storing suggestion
Leftover chocolate protein pudding can be refrigerated for 3-4 days in an airtight jar. I usually like portioning them out using small Mason jars, like this 8-oz Mason jar, for easy grab-and-go.
I recommend only adding toppings when ready to serve to keep the toppings fresh.
This recipe is not freezable, as chocolate protein pudding might separate and turn grainy when thawed.
❔Commonly asked questions
The thickness of your protein pudding depends on the type of protein powder used. Compared to whey, plant protein powders are more absorbent, which might result in a thicker pudding.
You can thin out the mixture by adding a splash of milk, then give it a good stir. Repeat until the desired texture is achieved.
