🍫What you will need
📃Ingredients notes and substitutions
- Yogurt - I am using soy yogurt to keep this recipe vegan. However, greek and plain yogurt works too!
- Protein powder - Both plant-based and whey protein powder works in this recipe. Vanilla or chocolate-flavored protein powder works best, but choose any flavor that sounds good to you! I love this vegan Kos chocolate protein powder.
- Milk - Both plant-based and dairy milk can be used in this recipe. I am using soy milk.
- Maple syrup - Feel free to substitute it with sugar-free syrup or stevia to make this recipe sugar-free and lower in calories. You can even omit it if your protein powder is sweet enough.
🥣How to make
Whisk - In a large bowl, mix all ingredients and stir until no clumps remain. You can do this either with a spoon or a small whisk.
Serve - Serve your protein pudding with whipped cream, chopped nuts, shaved chocolate, or any other toppings you like!
✅Helpful tips
- Use a protein powder you like - The protein powder you use will significantly affect the taste of your protein pudding.
- Using the right amount of milk - Adjust the amount added to reach desired consistency. Start with less, and gradually add more if needed.
- Making in a food processor - I highly recommend blending your ingredients using a small to medium-sized food processor for a smoother texture. A Nutribullet will work too!
- Refrigerating - Although this chocolate protein pudding can be served straight after mixing, I recommend letting it set in the fridge for around 15 minutes if you have time. The pudding will thicken up more and turn creamier.
✨Variations and add-ins
Here are some flavor variations and fun add-ins to change up your pudding -
Peanut butter - To make this peanut butter flavored, use a vanilla protein powder, and mix in 2 tablespoons of peanut butter or powdered peanut butter for a lower fat version. You can omit cocoa powder or leave it in to make your pudding chocolate peanut butter flavored.
Vanilla - Use a vanilla-flavored protein powder, and omit cocoa powder.
Mocha - Mix in ½-1 teaspoon of instant coffee granule, depending on how strong you want it to be.
Mint chocolate - Add a few drops of peppermint extract to the pudding mixture. Be careful not to add too much, as the extract taste pretty strong!
Chocolate chips - Mix in a handful of your favorite chocolate chips to elevate this chocolate protein pudding.
🥜How to serve
Here are some fun toppings to top your protein pudding:
- Drizzle of nut butter - peanut butter, coconut almond butter, cashew butter
- Chocolate chips, shaved chocolate, or chocolate sprinkles
- Whipped cream - regular or vegan
- Fruits - slices bananas, blueberries, raspberries
- Granola or cereal of choice
- Crushed nuts - peanut, almonds, pecans, walnuts
❄️Storing suggestion
Fridge - Keep chocolate protein pudding in a mason jar or sealed container. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freezer - Pudding can be frozen for a month. I recommend portioning it out with shallow, small containers before freezing so you will only take out what you need.
When ready to serve, let it thaw overnight in the fridge. Mix well before serving. The texture of your pudding might turn a little grainy, but still delicious!
