🔪How to make
Here is a quick rundown of the steps involved in making air fryer oyster mushrooms. The full detailed recipe will be in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Mix plant milk, hot sauce, and apple cider vinegar in a bowl. Set aside. In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, herbs and spices, and salt.
Dip each mushroom in the milk mixture, then gently shake off excess liquid. Next, dip it in the flour mixture and shake off extra. Repeat for the remaining mushrooms.
Arrange mushrooms in the air fryer basket, and spray some oil on them. Cook for 8-12 minutes at 180C/350F, flipping them and spraying with more oil halfway through.
Serve your air fryer mushrooms with a dipping sauce of choice, and enjoy!
✔Helpful tips
- Lightly coat the bottom of the air fryer basket with some oil to prevent mushrooms from sticking to it.
- I recommend letting the mushrooms sit and rest for a couple of minutes with the coating on before cooking. This helps the coating to better adhere to the mushrooms.
- Place mushrooms in one layer, and prevent overlapping during cooking to ensure they cook and brown evenly.
- If you notice some uncooked coating/dry flour spots when checking on them at the halfway point, spritz with oil. This encourages browning so that they won’t taste like raw flour!
- Cooking time might vary slightly depending on the brand of air fryer used.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for 2-3 days. Reheat them in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes at 180C/350F before serving.
❔Commonly asked questions
As oyster mushrooms are grown on wood, they are usually relatively clean without much dirt. Hence, gently wiping them with a damp cloth or paper towel should be sufficient.
Alternatively, you could quickly rinse them under running water, then allow them to air dry in a colander until ready to be used.
